Meet the Winemakers Behind Every Bottle

Controlled fermentation, daily punch-downs, cold maceration and careful oak ageing — the patient craft that defines the BELA style.

Meet the Winemakers Behind Every Bottle

Behind every bottle of BELA is a team of winemakers who believe that great wine is created through patience, precision, and respect for the fruit. From the moment the grapes arrive at the winery to the final stages of ageing, every decision is carefully considered.

The BELA style is shaped by a combination of traditional winemaking techniques and careful modern control. The goal is simple: to allow the character of the grapes and the land to express itself naturally while creating wines that are balanced, elegant, and enjoyable.

Patience Begins in the Cellar

Winemaking is a process that cannot be rushed. Once the grapes arrive, they are carefully selected and prepared for fermentation. Every stage is monitored closely, from temperature and extraction to the development of aromas and structure.

For the BELA team, patience is one of the most important ingredients. Rather than forcing the wine to develop quickly, the winemakers give it the time it needs to evolve naturally.

Controlled Fermentation

Fermentation is where grape juice begins its transformation into wine. At BELA, controlled fermentation allows the winemakers to carefully manage temperature and fermentation activity, helping preserve the natural aromas and character of the grapes.

This careful control is particularly important for maintaining the balance between fruit, freshness, structure, and texture. Every vintage can behave differently, so the winemakers adapt their approach according to the fruit and the conditions of the season.

The Art of Daily Punch-Downs

During fermentation, the grape skins naturally rise to the surface, forming what is known as the cap. To encourage gentle extraction of color, aromas, and tannins, the winemakers carry out daily punch-downs.

This traditional technique involves carefully pushing the grape skins back into the fermenting wine. It is a simple process, but timing and intensity matter. Too little extraction can result in a wine lacking structure, while too much can overpower the delicate character of the fruit.

The BELA approach focuses on gentle and controlled extraction, allowing the wine to develop complexity without losing its elegance.

Cold Maceration: Preserving the Fruit

Before fermentation begins, cold maceration may be used to allow the grape skins and juice to remain in contact at a low temperature. This helps encourage the extraction of delicate aromas and flavors while slowing down the start of fermentation.

For the winemakers, this stage is about giving the grapes time to reveal their character. The result can be a wine with greater aromatic expression, freshness, and depth.

Careful Oak Ageing

Oak can add another layer of complexity to wine, but it needs to be used with care. BELA wines undergo careful oak ageing where appropriate, allowing the wine to develop additional texture and subtle notes without allowing the oak to dominate the fruit.

Over time, the interaction between wine and oak can soften tannins and create greater harmony. The winemakers carefully monitor this process, tasting the wine regularly to determine when it has reached the right balance.

Crafted with a Light Touch

For the BELA winemakers, craftsmanship is not about changing the wine into something it is not. It is about guiding the wine while allowing the grapes to speak for themselves.

Every decision—from fermentation temperature to punch-down frequency, maceration time, and oak ageing—is made with the character of the final wine in mind.

The BELA Style

The result is a winemaking philosophy built around precision, patience, and balance. The wines are carefully shaped, but never overworked; expressive, but never excessive.

Behind every BELA bottle is a story of people who understand that exceptional wine takes time. It is found in the details, the quiet decisions, and the patience to wait until the wine is ready.

From vineyard to cellar, every bottle of BELA is a reflection of thoughtful craftsmanship and a passion for wine.
